DFC Upcoming Events
We are forced to change the location of our DFC streamside fly fishing clinic from the Salt River to McQueen Park in Gilbert. We noted over the weekend that SRP dramatically reduced the water flows below Stewart Mountain Dam (from the normal 750 cfs down to 10 cfs) which would have made fishing difficult. Additionally, the Cactus fire in that area is causing some road closure; we are unsure if we can even access the Blue Point Bridge on Saturday. So…….
The new location is McQueen Park in Gilbert. The good news is that DFC paid to have some sunfish stocked in the lake last weekend to support a Boy Scout merit fly fishing merit badge event, and most of those fish are still available. Since we are no longer stream fishing, there is no need for waders or wading boots. Just bring your fly rod, floating line, normal trout leaders and tippet, and standard trout or bluegill flies. We invite our long time members to come and help out the new fly fisherman. We have also moved up the start time to 7:30 a.m. DFC will provide water, and we will grill burgers and hotdogs for lunch at roughly 11:00 a.m. (The town of Gilbert was kind enough to reserve the ramada on the SW corner of the lake for us.)
The park is located on N. McQueen Rd, north of Elliot Rd, and just north of the canal. Turn east on McQueen Park Dr, drive to the end of the road and park at the parking lot on the left. Any questions? Please call:
